How to (not) use new transparency and border options in Pie & Donut charts
Hey everyone!
Welcome to this How To Use Power BI post, which is actually a How to NOT Use Power BI post. Freaky, right?
This post isn’t a technical one that will show you what to click to get something done in Power BI, but more of a chart design advice post. The video below will show you the implementation of some new formatting options for Pie & Donut charts, and why, most of the time, you should NOT use them.
If you’ve been reading these posts a while, you already know why… these features actually make Donut and Pie charts *more difficult* for audiences to consume.
We’re all about easy here.
No Power BI file to download for this post, just a video showing you the options and why they’re not great.
We’ll explore these new transparency and border features in future posts, but only when they’re *actually* useful to communicate the data insights the chart is built for.
Take care everyone,
Joe.
